ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Friday that the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement was released after consultation with me and after it was approved by the government, adding that the statement supported our stance.
The interior minister made these remarks while addressing a press conference shortly after the DG ISPR Asim Bajwa in a message posted on Twitter said that the federal government asked the Chief of Army Chief (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to play his facilitative role for resolution of the current political impasse during Thursday’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The interior minister said that the army role as mediator or guarantor was unconstitutional, therefore they were asked to play the role for facilitation. He said that the army’s facilitation of an end to the political crisis is constitutional.
Nisar said that the Pakistan army is facilitating but negotiations are to take place between the government and protesters only.
