NewsISPR shares Bacha Khan University attack details with media

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) has said that four terrorists and their four facilitators were involved in the Bacha Khan University attack, and they came from Afghanistan.

In a press conference in Peshawar on Saturday, the Director General ISPR Lt. General Asim Bajwa said that the terrorists did their preparations near Torkham Checkpost area in Afghanistan, and reached Mardan while using public transport.

Bajwa said that facilitators Muhammad Riaz, Noorullah and Muhammad Adil provided stay to the attackers in a house on Mardan-Charsadda road. He said that facilitators Adil and Riaz helped in purchasing weapons from Darra Adam Khel and supplying to Mardan through family ladies.

The DG ISPR said that the main commander Umar and deputy commander Zakir were controlling the attack from Afghanistan.

Bajwa said that all institutions need to play collective role in elimination of terrorism. He said the entire nation should support intelligence agencies and security forces in eliminating terrorists.

“We need not to be disappointed by terrorist attacks and we will not allow terrorists to succeed in their nefarious designs,” Bajwa said.

On January 20, at least 21 persons mostly students were martyred when a group of terrorists stormed the Bacha Khan University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda town.

The ISPR claimed that the Bacha Khan University attack was planned and handled from Afghanistan while the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif made separate telephone calls to the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah and Commander Resolute Special Mission in Afghanistan General John Campbell, and shared evidences with them.

However on Friday, the Afghan government rejected the perception that Afghanistan’s soil was used in the Bacha Khan University attack, saying it neither supports any terrorist group nor provides shelter to terrorists.

“Afghanistan believes that there was no good and bad terrorist and all had the agenda of killing innocent people and spreading terror,” said a statement issued on Friday by the Spokesman of Afghan President House.

Prior to the press conference by the DG ISPR today, the COAS presided over a meeting at Corps Headquarters in Peshawar to review the security situation of the country.

During the meeting which was also attended by Director General Military Operations (DGMO), DG ISPR, Corps Commander Peshawar and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), matters related to operations being carried out in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came under discussion.

The meeting also reviewed the Pak-Afghan border issues and progress in investigation of Charsadda attack.
