ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will arrive in Islamabad on March 25 for a two-day official visit which is to push forward the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project following the lifting of sanctions on Tehran.
Earlier it was reported that the Iranian president would pay a state visit to Pakistan by the end of March to push for the IP gas pipeline project but now diplomatic sources confirmed to the Dispatch News Desk (DND) that the important trip would take place on March 25.
The diplomatic sources said that a high level delegation would also accompany the Iranian president.
During the meeting between the Pakistani and Iranian leadership, issues related to bilateral relations, promotion of cooperation in various fields especially in energy and trade as well as the IP gas pipeline project would be brought under discussion.
The Iranian president’s visit to Pakistan follows the lifting of sanctions on Tehran by Islamabad as per the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, paving the way for the revival of economic and commercial relationship between Pakistan and Iran including the areas of trade, investment, technology, banking, finance and energy.
“All previous notifications giving effect to UN Security Council sanctions on Iran stand repealed with the issuance of the new notification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said a statement issued by the Finance Ministry on February 19.
In July last year, the Islamic Republic of Iran and six major powers reached a landmark deal called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Tehran’s nuclear program. Later the UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2231 to endorse the JCPOA.
