RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Indian troops targeted a vehicle of the United Nations Military Observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) along the Line of Control (LoC); however, UNMOGIP Officers luckily remained safe.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the UNMOGIP vehicle carrying Officers Major Emmanual of Philippine and Major Mirko of Croatia was moving along the LoC in Khanjar Sector but in the meantime, the Indian troops committed ceasefire violation.
The ISPR said that the blue flag was hoisted on the UNMOGIP vehicle as per procedure but yet the Indian troops targeted it. However, the ISPR added, both UNMOGIP Officers remained safe and returned back at their location.
Last week, Pakistan registered a protest with the United Nations Military Observers over unprovoked ceasefire violations and targeting of civilian population by the Indian army along the LoC.
In a press release issued on May 17, the ISPR said that the protest was registered when the UN Military Observers at the UNMOGIP were told at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi that the Indian troops had resorted to unprovoked firing at the LoC on May 10, 13 and 16, 2017 which resulted in civilian casualties.
