ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has changed the Joint Investigating Team (JIT) to probe the murder of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq.
A notification in this regard was issued on Monday.
The new five-member JIT team will be headed by the Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) anti-terror wing Muzharul Haq Kaka Khel.
The Assistant Director FIA anti-terror wing Muhammad Shoaib’s name has been included in the team, replacing Additional Director FIA Altaf Hussain while the DSR Sindh wing Raja Tahiq Iqbal has replaced Superintendent of Police (SP) Islamabad Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Captain (retd) Ilyas.
The representatives of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have been included in the new JIT.
Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad accepted a 14-day physical remand of three suspects accused of involvement in the murder of Dr Imran Farooq.
The suspects including Muazzam Ali Khan, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali Syed were presented in court where law enforcers requested a 14-day physical remand from the judge.
Earlier this month, the FIA registered a case against the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and six others for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to murder Dr Imran Farooq in London.
Dr Imran Farooq was assassinated near his apartment in north London on September 16, 2010.
