ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Advisor Lt General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua on Monday urged the World to recognize Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism, and also asked neighboring India not to pursue its hegemonic policies for regional peace.

“If we cannot be friends, let us not be enemies,” Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua said as the Chief Guest while addressing a Seminar titled “National Security Policy – Vision for Pakistan” organized by Center For Global & Strategic Studies in Islamabad.

Nasser Janjua criticized the new US administration, saying the US President Donald Trump is speaking India’s language. He said that both India and the United States have the same position on Kashmir issue.

The national security adviser said that India has constantly been threatening Pakistan of conventional war. He warned that India’s hegemonic designs & growing militarization, and the reluctance on the part of World Powers may trigger a nuclear war in South Asia. He also said that the US is creating imbalance in South Asia to compete China and Russia, bringing the region on the verge of a war.

The adviser said that the United States alleged that Pakistan helped Haqqani Network in Taliban in Afghanistan. However, he added, terrorism started in Pakistan as a result of its support to the United States and Western Countries in their war against terrorism but the World didn’t acknowledge Pakistan’s efforts.

Janjua said that the US is opposing China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and has also given preference to India over Pakistan. He said that India has been given a role in Afghanistan, neglecting Pakistan’s peace efforts and sacrifices.

Lt General (retd) Nasser Janjua said that stability and bringing lasting peace in Afghanistan must be the top priority. He said that the US is blaming Pakistan for its failure in Afghanistan. He said that Taliban are becoming stronger in Afghanistan.

The national security adviser was of the view that unending Afghan conflict may not be won with vengeance or mere power but through seeking closure of conflict instead of winning it. He said that closure of conflict can however help to end sufferings of Afghanistan and its poor people who have seen nothing else but war since decades.

Nasser Janjua reiterated that setting up an empowered “US Political Authority” can help to seek political solution for unending Afghan war.

Talking about law and order situation in the Country, Nasser Janjua said that now miscreants are surrendering in Balochistan while security situation in Country’s western province as well as in Karachi has now largely been improved.

While addressing the Seminar, the former Naval Chief of Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka Admiral Jayantha Perera thanked Pakistan for extending help in fighting terrorism in Sri Lanka in the past. He said that wrong picture about Pakistan is being portrayed in media.

Earlier, the Chairman CGSS Lt General (retd) Muhammad Zahirul Islam made the opening remarks in the Seminar.

The Senior Visiting Research Fellow at Kings Colleges London and Former Director at the UK Foreign and Common Wealth Office Tim Willasey in his address shed lights on “Challenges for the National Security for the 2020s”.

The Director, The Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Vladmiri Norov spoke about “Security Challenges for Central Asia” while the former Chief of Police in China and presently working as Foreign Policy and Security Export Shijie Chu elucidated “BRI Risk Assessment with Special Focus on CPEC”.
