The Indian media reports said that the 20-year-old Shaban Bukhari has been in a relationship with a Hindu girl for a couple of years and now the two plan to marry each.

But because the girl was Hindu therefore Shaban’s father was against the marriage. However, since the girl has agreed to adopt Islam as her religion, Syed Ahmed Bukhari does not oppose the marriage any more.

The reports said that the girl is a resident of Ghaziabad, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, and has started to learn the Holy Quran. Her marriage with Shaban is scheduled on November 13.

However, the people close to Syed Ahmed Bukhari has rejected the reports on his son’s marriage to a Hindu girl.

“These reports are a bundle of lies and an attempt to defame the Shahi Imam and his family ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls”, the office incharge of the Jama Masjid Delhi Amanullah was quoted as saying.

Shaban Bukhari is a graduate in social work from Amity University and on November 22 last year, he was formally anointed as the ‘Naib Shahi Imam’ (Vice Imam) of the Jama Masjid.

Syed Ahmed Bukhari had also invited Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the anointment ceremony of his son. However, he did not invite the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the ceremony, triggering a controversy.
