PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Chief of the Haqqani network Maulvi Jaluluddin Haqqani has died, the Haqqani Network confirmed on Friday.
His death occurred almost a year ago due to natural causes and was reportedly buried in eastern Afghanistan province of Khost.
The sources said that Jaluluddin Haqqani’s son Sirajuddin Haqqani has been running the militant network for over a year now since the group Chief began suffering from illness.
The Haqqani network has been active since 1980 and is allied with the Afghan Taliban.
The insurgent group operates on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghan border, and the US officials believe that it is based in Afghanistan.
The confirmation about Jalaluddin Haqqani’s came a few days after the Taliban fighting in the war-torn country also confirmed the death of their Chief one-eyed Mullah Muhammad Omar.
Mullah Omar was reportedly died in April 2013 in Pakistan. The Taliban appointed Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor as their new Chief.
