Islamabad, Pakistan: The National Security Adviser of Pakistan (retd) Lt General Nasser Khan Janjua left for Dushanbe on Wednesday for bilateral talks with the Tajik leadership.
During his stay in Dushanbe Tajikistan from September 27 to September 28, the security adviser will discuss issues related with regional security with Tajik officials.
According to available information, Lt General Nasser Khan Janjua will hold meetings with security experts of Tajikistan about threats being faced by region due to unending Afghan war building uncertainly at the borders of Central Asia. It is pertinent to mention that Tajikistan has expressed its serious concerns over presence of terrorists in its bordering areas including Afghan province of Kunduz which borders with southwestern city of Qurghonteppa and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan. It is pertinent to explain that Qurghonteppa and Gorno-Badakhshan had been hubs of separatists and foreign Jihadis during Tajik Civil War that began in May 1992 when ethnic groups from the Garm and Gorno-Badakhshan regions of Tajikistan rose up against Tajik government.
Tajikistan and Pakistan are concern over on-going conflict in Afghanistan where civil war has expanded to all areas bordering Pakistan and Central Asia. Pakistan is trying to find way out of Afghan civil war and had been supporting negotiations among fighting factions and Kabul government. Pakistan believes that Afghan war cannot be won with military solutions and closure of conflict is the needed while US forces present in Afghanistan believe to win the war with military might although US along with its NATO partners have failed to establish the writ of Kabul government during last 16 years under “Operation Enduring Freedom” launched after 9/11 tragedy.
The National Security Adviser of Pakistan (retd) Lt General Nasser Janjua who fought and won military operations against terrorists in Swat Valley of Pakistan and in the province of Baluchistan has proposed a formula to US leadership for bringing peace in Afghanistan.
His (Gen Janjua) formula is based on the reality that unending Afghan conflict may not be won with military solution but through “closure of conflict instead of winning it”. General Janjua believes that fighting stakeholders of Afghan war understand that conflict needs its closure and it is easy to achieve option of closure of conflict rather than winning the conflict. It is expected that General Janjua would share his narrative during his meetings with Tajik security experts.
Pakistan and Tajikistan have been enjoying brilliant relations since the former became independent in early 1990s following the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
