Uzbekistan, Tashkent: A high-powered military delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan headed by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mahmood Hayat has arrived in Tashkent today, reports Dispatch News desk (DND) News Agency.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan General Zubair Mahmood Hayat was received by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdullah Aripov, and a meeting was also held with the Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan, Major-General Abdusalom Azizov.

The talks discussed the current state of regional security and bilateral military cooperation, as well as other issues of mutual interest. Afghanistan unrest and terrorism in the region covered most of agenda items of the meeting.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan General Zubair Mahmood Hayat  and other members of Pakistani delegation visited the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies that works under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Delegation acquainted with the activities of Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies.

Pakistani delegation will also visit historic cities of Samarkand and Bukhara on familiarization tours.

Pakistani delegation will pay tribute to first president of Uzbekistan and father of the nation by visiting his grave in Samarkand. The program of the visit of Samarkand and Bukhara include familiarization with the cultural and historical sights of Bukhara and Samarkand, as well as laying a wreath to the burial place of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

The nuclear power of South Asia and member of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Pakistan has close ties with Tashkent since independence of Uzbekistan from the former Soviet Union in 1991.

Pakistan was the first Country to connect Uzbekistan with South Asia through flight; therefore, Tashkent gives special position to its relations with Islamabad.

Both the Countries are engaged in many spheres of military relationships.

Talks between military leadership of Uzbekistan and Pakistan will start tomorrow in Tashkent.
