Islamabad, Pakistan: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan Army Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa was trend on twitter on Saturday after his meeting with Chairman Pakistan Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that held on Friday. This was first meeting of COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa with any politician of Pakistan after assuming charge of armed forces of Pakistan.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan while talking to journalist on Saturday said that COAS is “standing with democracy”.
Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Armed Forces on Friday released a note without any photo stating that “Imran Khan met with General Qamar and felicitated him on his promotion”.
While PTI released a statement in which it said that Chairman PTI Imran Khan and COAS Gen Qamar discussed “issues of national and international importance”.
Meeting of COAS and Imran Khan became trend of political discussion on Saturday and “Gen Bajwa” remained top trend of Twitter in Pakistan.
Pakistan is a country where political parties try to seek their power or at least support from Army and this meeting is being considered “Important” by rumour mongers in capital while treasury politicians are considering this meeting “very Important” because political circles of Pakistan are waiting for reserved decision on “Panama Papers”—a case in which Supreme Court is going to announce its verdict that can determine political future of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Certain credible circles claim that PTI Chief Imran Khan met COAS Gen. Bajwa to discuss delay in announcing findings of “Dawn Leaks” and decision in Panama Papers.
Dawn Leaks is another important issue that can drift sitting government into problem because Army leadership is taking this story as a serious breach and dangerous news that hampered civil-military relationship and an alleged attempt to malign Pakistan Army.
An important circle of PTI claims that PTI Chairman discussed Pak-Afghan relation and closure of Pak-Afghan border with COAS Gen. Bajwa.
“Whatever was discussed is not important. Important is this meeting of Army Chief with Imran Khan who is giving tough time to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and general elections are just 13 months away. GHQ indicates political parties that its gates are open to politicians and they are welcome to meet COAS through proper channel and with a request to him”, commented a senior journalist when asked to express his view other Friday’s meeting between COAS Gen Bajwa and PTI Chief Imran Khan.
