RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne on Saturday passed away in a road accident on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Chakri.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has confirmed the death of former CJCS General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne after his car overturned due to tyre burst.

His son also sustained injuries in the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne retired as the CJCSC on October 7, 2013 after six years at the helm. Earlier, he was promoted to four-star General in 2010 when General (retd) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani was the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), and appointed as the 14th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Following the retirement of General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne, General (retd) Rashad Mahmood took over as the CJCSC.

When a military operation was launched in Balochistan in Musharraf era, General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne was the Commander Southern Command.

PM Khaqan grieved over death of former CJCSC

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of former CJCSC General (retd) Khalid Shamim Wynne in a road accident.

In a statement, the prime minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and grant of courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

The prime minister also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured in the accident.
