Federal govt to launch one-year internship program for youth

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government is considering launching one-year internship program for the youth in the next few months.

In an interview, the Chairperson of Prime Minister Youth Development Program Leila Khan, said that about 50,000 internships will be provided to the master’s degree holders in the first year, and each internee will be given Rs12,000.

The chairperson revealed that the students of religious seminaries will also be inducted in the skill development program in order to bring them in the national mainstream.

The seminary students from the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) will get Rs3,000 stipend while others will get Rs2,000 per month. She said that under the skill development program, 25,000 students have so far been provided training in different fields.

Leila Khan said that the government is also considering to launch youth training program in the next few months.

Responding to a question about youth business loan scheme, the chairperson said that Rs4.1 billion have so far been disbursed under this scheme to 6,000 youth. She said that private banks are also being involved in the execution of this project.

The chairperson said that Rs485 million have also been disbursed amongst over 23,000 youth under the interest free loan scheme. She said that under this scheme, Rs50,000 are being given to each successful applicant.
