ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday officially announced the schedule of by-elections in Lahore’s NA-122 and Lodhran’s NA-154 to be held on October 11.
In the schedule separately released for both the constituencies, the ECP said that nomination papers would be received on September 10 and 11 while scrutiny of nomination papers would take place on September 14 and 15.
The ECP said that the last date for decision on appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers would be September 19.
The candidates can withdraw their nomination by September 21 when the final list of the contestants would be published.
Earlier this month, the election tribunals declared the 2013 election results of NA-122 and NA-154 null and void and ordered the ECP to hold fresh polls in both the constituencies.
The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), whose two candidates former Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Muhammad Siddique Khan Baloch were de-seated after the tribunals verdicts, announced that they would not take stay orders against tribunals’ verdicts.
On Saturday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced that Jehangir Khan Tareen and Aleem Khan would be the party’s candidates for the upcoming by-polls in NA-122 and NA-154.
