NewsEarthquakes pose new threat in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Director Earthquake Division Zahid Rafee has said that two third of Pakistan is located on fault lines which has caused many gaps that created by major quakes lead to more quakes.

According to a private news channel, he said earthquakes, aftershocks, which have frequently shaken the federal capital during the current month, are attributed to a new fault line that emerged in the aftermath of last year’s major quake that hit different parts of the country in October 2015.

He said as many as 27 aftershocks from an earthquake shook Islamabad in a month.

Director General Met Office Ghulam Rasool said, “Energy released from gaps causes aftershocks following earthquakes”.

He said earthquakes have instilled fear among the citizens of the federal capital, forcing residents of multi-storey buildings to find safer houses.
