ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS) will organize a Conference on “Water Security: Issues/Way Forward on Aggression and Conservation” in Islamabad on October 24 (Conference on ‘Water Security’).

The Conference will consist of two Sessions namely “Water Aggression” and “Water Conservation”.

In the first Session, following the recitation of Holy Quran, the Chairman CGSS Lt General (retd) Muhammad Zahid Ul Islam will make the opening remarks while the Minister of State for Climate Change as the chief guest will deliver the inaugural address on “Water Security and its Importance for Pakistan”.

The former Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Shams Ul Mulk will speak on “Futurist Profiling of River Indus with Special Emphasis on Water Flowing from Western Borders”, followed by the speech of the former Federal Law Minister Advocate Ahmer Bilal Soofi on “Indian Violation of Indus Water Treaty”.

The Chairman Federal Flood Commission will speak on “Main Streaming Disaster (Flood) Risk Reduction in Water Sector” and the Vice President CGSS Major General (retd) Hafiz Masroor Ahmed will deliver a speech on “Indian Water Aggression in South Asia”.

The Interactive Question & Answer Session will also be held before the lunch.

Conference on ‘Water Security’ in Islamabad on October 24

The second Session “Water Conservation” will begin with the address of International Water Expert on Peaceful Water Sharing Ms. Agnes Pompos on “Role of International Convention and Agreements in Peaceful Water Sharing”,

The National Coordinator on Water Resources, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) Zakir Hussain Dahri will speak on “Surface Storage and Groundwater Recharge in Pakistan”; the Director, Climate Energy and Water Resources Institute, National Agriculture Research Center (NARC) Dr. Muhammad Munir Ahmad on “Water Smart Irrigation Technologies to Manage Water Scarcity”; and the Management Consultant/COO, Baigmann Water Company, Lahore Waseem Anwar Baig on “Strategies for Water Reservation”.

The Chairman Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) Dr. Muhammad Ashraf will make an address on “Groundwater Potential in Indus Plains”.

While the Chairman CGSS Lt General (retd) Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam will deliver the closing remarks after another Interactive Question & Answer Session.
