RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Thursday confirmed death sentences awarded to five hardcore terrorists by military courts, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a press release issued on Thursday, the IPSR said that those perpetrators, whose death sentences were confirmed by the COAS, were involved in Safora Chowrangi bus attack and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near Saleh Masjid Karachi, killing of a social worker Miss Sabeen Mahmud and attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).
These five convicts were active members of Al-Qaeda.
Details of convicts as under:
(Convict No 1): Tahir Hussain Minhas S/O Khadim Hussain Minhas. He was tried on nine charges.
(Convict No 2): Saad Aziz S/O Abdul Aziz Sheikh. He was tried on 10 charges.
(Convict No 3): Asad ur Rehman S/O Atique ur Rehman. He was tried on four charges
(Convict No 4): Hafiz Nasir S/O Afzal Ahmed. He was tried on five charges
(Convict No 5): Muhammad Azhar Ishrat S/O Ishrat Rasheed Ahmed. He was tried on five charges
The convicts were involved in attacking a bus of Ismaili Community at Safora Chowrangi in Karachi which resulted in death and injuries to the passengers. They were also involved in attack on Saleh Masjid Karachi, killing of a social worker Miss Sabeen and attacking LEAs.
The convicts admitted their offences before the trial court. Eventually, they all were awarded death sentences.
