Rawalpindi, Pakistan: General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) arrived South Africa today on a three days official visit, said a press statement issued here on Monday released by Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Army.

Early during the day, COAS visited South African Army Headquarters where he was presented 21 gun salute. He was also presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of South African Army.

General Raheel Sharif called on Lieutenant General V. R. Masondo, Chief of South African Army at the Army HQs. During the meeting matters of mutual interest and bilateral defence ties came under discussion. The South African Army chief lauded the professional prowess and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in successfully fighting against terrorism and showed keenness in bolstering mutually beneficial defence ties between both the friendly countries.

General Raheel Sharif was also given detailed briefing on operational and training matters of South African Army.

Later COAS called on Gen Solly Zacharia Shoke, Chief of South African National Defence Forces (SANDF).Matters of professional interest were discussed during the meeting
Later, COAS also visited defence production facilities of South Africa to see possibilities of enhancing defence collaboration and training exchanges between both the countries.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
