ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A day-long International Conference on “Shanghai Cooperation Organization; Future Prospects and Regional Connectivity” will take place at Margalla Hotel in Islamabad on March 12, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

The senior representatives from the SCO Member States and Observer States including Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Iran and Belarus will participate in the Conference being organized by the Centre for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), a non-profit research institution.

The event will kick off at 10:00 am with the first Session.

Following the recitation of Holy Quran and the presentation of mementos, the Chairman CGSS Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam will deliver the Opening Remarks.

From Pakistan, the Foreign Secretary Mrs. Tehmina Janjua will speak on “Role of Pakistan in Regional Peace and Prosperity” while from China, the Director of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European, Central Asia Studies and Secretary General of Center for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Study, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Professor Sun Zhuangzhi will deliver a speech on “Regional Challenges for the Enhancement of Regional Integration”.

From Russia, the Expert at Center for Studies of the Problems of Central Asia and Afghanistan, Moscow State Institute of International Relations Dr. Leonid Gusev will speak on “The fight against terrorist organizations in the countries of Central Asia, members of SCO. Connections with terrorist organizations in the Middle East”.

The Director at the Chinese Studies Centre, School Of Social Sciences and Humanities (S3H), National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad Mr. Syed Hasan Javed will speak on “SCO’s Future Discourse and Opportunities for the Region”.

From Uzbekistan, the Head of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Mr. Bakhtiyor Mustafayev will speak on “Multilateral Security cooperation to address the security issues in the region”.

From Tajikistan, the Director of the Center for Strategic Researches under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dushanbe will speak on “SCO; A Common Vision of Shared Future of Region”.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Pakistan His Excellency Barlybay Sadykov will address on the topic “Prospects of intra-regional trade in the SCO region”.

From the Kyrgyz Republic, the Adviser to the Director at the National Institute for Strategic Studies of the Kyrgyz Republic (NISS KR), Bishkek Mr. Seitzhan Apyshev will speak on “Multilateral Cooperation in Cultural Exchange”.

The Session 2 will commence with the speech on “Pakistan’s Contribution in SCO” by the Additional Secretary, National Coordinator of Pakistan for SCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad Mr. Zahoor Ahmed.

From Belarus, the Head of Academic Affairs Unit, Belarusian State University, Minsk Professor Elena Dostanko will speak on “The Prospects of European Dimension of the SCO in XXI Century”.

From Iran, the Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Political and International Studies (IPIS), Tehran Mr. Seyed Majid Ghafelehbashi will deliver a lecture on “Iran’s Contribution in Shanghai Cooperation Organization”.

Whereas the former Federal Minister of Defence Lieutenant General (retd) Naeem Khalid Lodhi will speak on “Pakistan’s Role in Regional Peace and Stability” followed by the Moderated Question and Answer Session.

The Chairman CGSS Lt General (retd) Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam will end the Conference with his Closing Remarks.
