Board of Lahore dates back quiet closely to the emergence of Pakistan. Before the state of Pakistan the examinations in Lahore and other areas of Punjab were conducted under the governance of University of Punjab. In 1954, amendments were made which led to the establishment of Board of Secondary Education Punjab. At that time the board was responsible for conducting examinations across Punjab, and also in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtoon Khuwa (then NWFP), and Balochistan. The board also conducted overseas examinations in Kuwait and Kenya.
Currently, Board of Lahore conducts examinations only in districts Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Okara and Sheikhupura. It offers two major certificates at Matriculation level. One in Science and the other in arts. While on the intermediate level it offers six different majors including Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Computer Science, Commerce, Arts, and General Science.
The board has been working excellently right from it inception, and is currently one of most trusted board in Punjab. BISE Lahore believes in unbiased, impartial and transparent examinations, they thrive for it. Their work reflects their motto.
With the increase in the number of students, new boards emerged. BISE Lahore helped these boards set themselves on the right part and played its part for the betterment of educational and examination system in Punjab. Most of the newer boards in Punjab still follow its lead and adopted their system – as BISE continues to play its role.
