Aftab Sherpao survives suicide attack in Charsadda

CHARSADDA, Pakistan: The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chief and the former Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao survived a suicide attack on his convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district on Thursday.

However, two persons including a policeman were killed while five others sustained injuries when a suicide bomber detonated himself just near Sherpao’s convoy as it was passing through Kangra Batgram area.

Luckily, the QWP leader and the current member of the National Assembly remained safe in the attack.

The sources said that the attach took place when the MNA Aftab Sherpao was returning back from a political rally.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the suicide attack on the convoy of the QWP chief.

In a message, he extended condolences to the family of the deceased police official and sought report into the incident.

Aftab Sherpao was the 35th Federal Interior Minister and prior to it, he also had remained as the Federal Minister for Water and Power (WAPDA), Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas and States & Frontier Regions (KANA & SAFRON) and Minister for Interprovincial Coordination.

Sherpao has also served as the 14th and 18th Chief Minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
