ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The 6th Regional Technical Group (RTG) Meeting of the Disaster Management Confidence Building Measure (DM-CBM) under the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process will be held in Islamabad on June 22, 2018.
The 6th RTG Meeting of DM-CBM will be organized by the National Disaster management Authority (NDMA), an autonomous and constitutionally established federal authority mandated to deal with whole spectrum of disasters and their management in Pakistan.
Earlier the 5th RTG Meeting of DM-CBM was held on December 9, 2016 in Astana, the Capital of Kazakhstan.
The Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process – comprising 14 participating Countries, 17 supporting Countries, and 12 supporting regional and international organizations – was established on November 2, 2011 to address the shared challenges and interests of Afghanistan and its neighbors and regional partners.
It provides a platform for sincere and results-oriented regional cooperation by placing Afghanistan at its center, in recognition of the fact that a secure and stable Afghanistan is vital to the prosperity of the Heart of Asia region.
Separately, an International Conference on Natural Disasters will be held in Islamabad today (Wednesday) under the auspices of the NDMA.
The representatives from China, Iran, India, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Sweden, France, Japan, Norway, United Kingdom, the United States, United Nations, World Bank and European Union (EU) will participate in the Conference.
Besides, the Caretaker Ministers, the Chairman NDMA, the former Chairman Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and experts will also be present in the Conference.
In the Conference, the Disaster Risk Management will present recommendations especially on ways to tackle challenges of natural disasters being faced by Pakistan.
