Peshawar, Pakistan: Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has disposed off around 6449 tones of sacrificial animal in special cleanliness campaign launched for Eid-ul-Azha, reports APP.

This was said by Chief Executive Officer of WSSP, Engineer Muhammad Naeem Khan on Sunday. This he said while visiting different parts of the city including Hayatabad, University Road, Rahatabad, Palosai, Tehkal Bala, Danishabad, Nauthia, Gulbahar, Faqirabad, Phando Road, Sethi Town, Zaryab Colony and Charsadda Road.

He was accompanied by General Manager Operations, Nasir Ghafoor Khan, Zonal Managers Ashraaf Qadir, Arif Rauf, Ali ur Rehman Khan, Amin Gul, and other officials. The special cleanliness campaign was kicked-off from Thursday morning and continued till complete cleaning of the city.

It is pertinent to mention here that more than 200 vehicles and 3,000 sanitary workers remained busy in the campaign to ensure timely disposal of remaining of sacrificial animals.

For safe disposal of animal wastes, 100 feet long and 15 feet wide digging has been done in the existing dumping site at Hazarkhwani.

During his briefing to the Chief Executive Officer, General Manager Operations Nasir Ghafoor Khan said that during the four-day campaign, a total of 866 complaints were lodged in the complaints cells, which were cleared accordingly.

He said that a total of 6449 tons of remains of sacrificial animals were collected and disposed accordingly.

Among them, 995 tons were collected from Zone A, 2,954 tons from Zone B, 1950 from Zone C and 550 tons from Zone D.

The General Manager Operations said that special fumigation along with dry lime application campaign had been carried-out in the entire city along with fumigation at the dumping site.

He said that during the campaign all the Zonal Managers were personally present in their geographical locations to better facilitate the residents.

During his visit to different areas and talking to sanitary workers and residents of the city, the Chief Executive Officer thanked the citizens for their continued support and facilitation during the campaign.

“The animal waste is hazardous to health and needs to be properly disposed-off. Cleanliness is a part of our religion and everyone must play his due role in cleaning-up the city as early as possible”, Naeem Khan added.
