Dushanbe, Tajikistan: The 24th Tajikistan Independence Day was celebrated under tight security on Wednesday due two terrorism incidents that took place in Dushanbe on September 4, resulting killing of over 30 law enforces.

President of China, Russia, United States of America, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Iran in their separate congratulatory messages expressed their good wishes to President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and his nation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, sent a congratulatory letter to President Emomali Rahmon on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the Independence Day of the country. He said said:

“We have exchanged views on Chinese-Tajik relations, as well as the issues of mutual interest and reached consensus. I am ready to maintain close contacts and make the joint efforts to promote the Chinese-Tajik cooperation further,” the Chinese leader underscored.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in his message said that Russian has a long history of relations with Tajikistan and time tested partner and Russian nation congratulate Tajik people for their independence. He said Russia respect independence of all countries that were part of former Soviet Union and always help them whenever they need Russia.

Secretary of State of United States John Kerry expressed his congratulation and sent a message to President of Tajikistan on behalf of the President of the United States and the American people.

In his message he said:

Today honors the fierce determination of the Tajik people to establish a peaceful, democratic, prosperous and secure future for themselves. We continue to stand with the people of Tajikistan in this endeavor, particularly following the tragic events of September 4, and extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussian in his message said that Tajikistan is an important partner in a region of growing global significance and have historical linkages with Pakistan and Pakistan wishes the best future for Tajik people. He looked forward for continuity of cordial relations with Tajikistan .

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated the President, Emomali Rahmon and said:

“I am sure that the existing friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan will be developed in the future for the benefit of the national interests of our people”.

It may be remembered that Tajikistan Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR) declared its independence following the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) on September 9, 1991 and fell into a civil war for power tussle among groups that announced independence. Leading factors were Afghan and Pakistan backed Islamic parties and groups that wished to make Tajikistan as an Islamic state. The non-Muslim population, particularly Russians and Jews ran away during this time because of persecution. Russian population opted to go to Russia. Sitting President Emomalii Rahmon came to power in 1994 and continues to rule to this day.
