ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government on Monday decided to establish ‘Dar-ul-Tarjuma’ for the promotion of national language and translation of selected international literature in Urdu.

The decision was taken in a meeting held here at National History and Literary Heritage (NH&LG) Division with Advisor to Prime Minister on NH&LG Irfan Siddiqui in the chair.

Senior officials of NH&LH and Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) briefed the Advisor on the legal and technical issues of the Dar-ul-Tarjuma.

Speaking on the occasion, Irfan Siddiqui said all the obstacles in the implementation of Urdu should be overcome and with national spirit work would be initiated for the implementation of Urdu as official language.

He said professional capability should be utilized for implementing the constitutional and judicial obligation.

The Advisor directed that steps should be taken for the promotion of research in Urdu. Universities and youth should be involved in research work, he added.

He said the National History and Literary Heritage division would play the role of facilitator. The initiative would not only encourage young researchers but also promote the national language, he added.

The meeting also discussed the issues related to writers, scholars and copyright.

Irfan Siddiqui also directed senior officials to take steps for tackling the issues related to copyright.

The meeting also discussed the financial and future plans and targets and issues of PAL and its attached departments.

The meeting was attended by Secretary NH&LH Mohsin S Haqqani, PAL Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio, and senior officials of NH&LH and PAL.
