Nawaz Sharif visits Miranshah, gets briefing on Zarb-e-Azb

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has visited Miranshah on Thursday, becoming the first elected prime minister to visit the headquarters of the restive North Waziristan tribal agency ever.

   

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif received the prime minister upon his arrival in Miranshah.

Upon his arrival, the prime minister was given a detailed briefing on the success achieved so far by the security forces in military operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The briefing was also attended by the Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali, the Minister for State and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan.

The prime minister was informed that 80 percent area of the agency has been cleared from terrorists. He was informed that the army is now engaged against terrorists in Ghulam Khan area near Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Later, addressing army officers and jawans in Miranshah, Sharif said that the whole nation is happy over the achievements of Zarb-e-Azb. He said that the nation is winning this war and the country will be become a safe country as a result of it.

Sharif said that Pakistan army under the leadership of General Raheel Sharif is waging the war against terrorists in a proper manner. He said that this is not a traditional war rather it is being fought against the invisible enemy.

The prime minister lauded the role of those army officers and jawans who scarified their lives for the bright future of Pakistan. He also inspected the arms and ammunition including rocket launchers, missile launchers and mines captured by the security forces.

The Pakistan army launched the operation against terrorists in the agency on June 15, and since then about 1,000 terrorists have been killed in the operation.
