PoliticsNawaz-Jindal meeting is not part of backchannel diplomacy: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Friday claimed that meeting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with the Indian business tycoon Sajjan Jindal had nothing to do with backchannel diplomacy.

Talking to media in Lahore, Rana Sanaullah said that the visit of the Indian delegation led by Sajjan Jindal was personal.

Sajjan Jindal reportedly held a meeting with the prime minister on Thursday in Murree, a mountainous area near the Capital Islamabad. However according to media reports, Sajjan Jindal had not been issued visa of Murree though he had the visa to stay in Islamabad and Lahore for 10 days.

The meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Indian Business Sajjan Jindal triggered intense criticism from the Opposition as it took place when Indian atrocities still continues in Occupied Kashmir, and Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadav and former Spokesman of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Ehsan Ullah Ehsan admitted Indian involvement in subversive activities in Pakistan.

Sources said that since Sajjan Jindal enjoyed a close ties with both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif, his meeting with the later could be part of some backchannel contact to improve relations between Pakistan and India.

Talking about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) public gathering at Parade ground in Islamabad later in the day, Rana Sanaullah said that it was tantamount to the contempt of Supreme Court.

“Ilzam Khan to hold rally today at parade ground and his motives are unethical,” the Punjab law minister said that adding that their aim was to put the institutions and judiciary under pressure.

Rana Sanaullah said that through protest and sit-ins, the PTI wanted to stop the developmental process of the Country. He said that these people wanted to promote their negative politics.
