TEHRAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran on Monday morning and discussed bilateral relations at length.

Sharif is currently on a two-day official visit to Iran, his first since the formation of new governments in the two neighboring countries.

During the meeting with the top religious leader, the prime minister said that Pakistan and Iran share common religion and culture and the two countries need to work together for the development.

On Sunday, Sharif called on the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and held wide ranging talks covering all aspects of bilateral relations in Tehran.

The two sides agreed to continue with the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project as it is beneficial for the people of both the countries. The two leaders also pledged to enhance bilateral trade.

Both the leaders also discussed border security matters and agreed that better border management and improved security measures would result in increased trade and cooperation between the two countries.
