ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with his Indian Counterpart Narendra Modi on Tuesday and assured him of Pakistan’s full cooperation in investigation of Pathankot air base attack.

Talking to Modi, Sharif expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in Pathankot terror attack, and assured him that Pakistan would investigate in detail on the leads and information provided by the government of India.

Sharif said that terrorists always try to derail the peace process between the two countries.

Both the leaders also expressed their resolve to fight terrorism through mutual cooperation of their governments.

On January 2, a group of seven unknown terrorists in army uniforms attacked the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Indian Punjab’s Pathankot. The operation against the attackers at the IAF base still continues and till now, six terrorists have been killed while one terrorist still happens to be in the compound.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, the Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that hopefully operation against the IAF base attackers will be completed tomorrow, and after that media will be provided full information about the operation.

The Indian defence minister said that an investigation regarding the attack is underway, and once it is completed then terrorists information will be made public.

As many as seven personnel of Indian security forces have also been killed in the exchange of fire with the terrorists.

On Monday, in a statement, an alliance of Kashmiri militant groups the United Jihad Council (UJC) claimed the deadly attack on the IAF’s Pathankot airbase, saying the attack was a message to India that Kashmiri fighters could strike at any sensitive installation across India.

“Pathankot air base attack has been carried out by the mujahideen associated with National Highway Squad,” a spokesman for UJC Syed Sadaqat Hussain said.

“Pakistan has nothing to do with the attack but ironically the Indian government, media and their armed forces are suffering from Pakistan phobia,” the UJC spokesman said.

Earlier, Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack at the IAF base in Pathankot, and reiterated its commitment to partner with India as well as other countries in the region to completely eradicate the menace of terrorism afflicting our region.
