NationalYaum-e-Takbeer being observed today

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Yaum-e-Takbeer is being observed on Friday with great zeal and fervor to commemorate historic nuclear tests Pakistan conducted on May 28, 1998.

The nuclear explosions, which were conducted in Balochistan’s Chaghi area in self-defense to respond to India’s aggression of nuclear tests, made Pakistan’s defense invincible.

As a result, Pakistan became the first nuclear power in the Muslim world and seventh in the world.

In a statement on Friday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that on the occasion of Yaum-e-Takbeer, the nation reaffirms its resolve to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence against any form of aggression.

The Spokesperson said that Pakistan is committed to continue working towards the promotion of an environment of peace and stability at the regional and global levels.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that Pakistan has been actively contributing to international efforts for strengthening global norms on arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament and follows the latest international standards on export controls, nuclear safety, and security at the national level.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson said that this year, Yaum-e-Takbeer has been marked by the inauguration of 1,100 MWe K-2 Nuclear Power Plant in Karachi which adds much valuable, cleaner, reliable and affordable electricity to the national energy mix. He added that this underscores the role of nuclear science and technology in the socio-economic development of the country and the welfare of its people.

Besides nuclear power generation, Pakistan has harnessed nuclear technology for public service in diverse areas including cancer diagnosis and treatment, public health, agriculture, environment protection, and industry.

“The nation pays its tribute to the contributions of its scientists, engineers, and technicians for the security and development of Pakistan,” Chaudhri said.

Separately, in a Twitter statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that 23 years ago on this day, Pakistan restored the balance of power in the region by successfully establishing a credible minimum nuclear deterrence.

The ISPR said that Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation pay tribute to all those involved in making this dream come true.
