ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The World Labour Day is being observed today (Sunday) with the renewed pledge to acknowledge and promote the dignity of labourers.

The Labour Day is observed all over the world on May 1 in the memory of massacre of labourers who laid their lives in 1886 in Chicago while protecting the rights of labourers.

Despite facing difficulties our work force has shown its commitment towards taking our economy forward. In the last few years Pakistan’s economy has picked up and with the improved law and order situation and focus on overcoming the energy crisis, I hope we will be able to generate greater opportunities of decent jobs for our working class.

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development is fully committed to the welfare of Pakistani working class. All efforts are being made to bring about improvements in housing, health and education facilities for workers and their families.

The Ministry is working closely with all provincial governments to ensure that due rights of workers are provided and protected all across the Country.

I reaffirm the Government’s commitment to the cause of our workforce and urge all stake holders to join in our efforts to promote the wellbeing of labour.

On this special day, I greet our working class and hope that through our joint efforts we can make Pakistan a truly developed Country.”
