NationalWhistle Blower Act to end corruption, corrupt practices: KPK CM

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak Tuesday presided over a meeting of Select Committee on proposed Whistle blower Act that gave final touches to the law to be tabled in next session of the provincial assembly for enactment.

The meeting held at the provincial assembly secretariat here was attended by Provincial Senior Minister for LG& RD Inayatullah Khan, Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Quershi, MPAs Muhammad Ali Shah, Mehmood Battani, Shaukat Yousfzai, Sardar Idress, Sardar Hussain Babak and Zarin Gul.

The participants after threadbare discussion regarding different dimensions of proposed legislation, suggested certain amendments to finalize it for presentation in the next session. The participants discussed the law to make it more effective and reconcile to ground realities.

Addressing the participants, Chief Minister said his government was going all out to have a check and balance mechanism through a set of legislations to ensure open and transparent governance in the province.

“The whistle blower law would bring an end to corruption and corrupt practices and make all governance related issues transparent in all spares of public dealings. It would lead to responsiveness for judicious utilization of public money,” he added.

Pervez Khattak said the Act was one of the legislation enacted by provincial government to eliminate misuse of power and authority by all. He expressed hope that proposed legislation would eliminate commission and other corrupt practices in public sector institutions leading to institutional strengthening instead of individual as seen in the past.

Participants of the meeting agreed to certain safeguards for protection of whistle blower against any victimization. If the complaint was formed on mala fide intention the complainant would be punished. The meeting also agreed to allow victim to claim compensation if the complaint was based on mala fide intention.

Chief Minister also directed concerned quarters to finalize mechanism for enforcement of proposed law after enactment from provincial assembly.
