ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Friday said corruption and bribery thrive on systematic weaknesses.

While chairing a meeting to review monthly progress of the decisions taken in the last coordination meeting held at NAB Headquarters in Islamabad, he said NAB aims at eliminating those weaknesses and enhancing integrity and transparency by preventing the acts of corruption and corrupt practices with the help of people of Pakistan.

He said NAB was established to eradicate corruption in a holistic and integrated manner.

NAB is striving to accomplish its mission to rid the nation of corruption and corrupt practices. NAB is essentially a complaint driven organization. NAB operational methodology has set three stages for proceeding of cases complaint verification, inquiry and investigation.

NAB’s personnel need to follow a strict code of conduct and zero tolerance policy against eradication of corruption.

He said NAB has started awareness and prevention campaign “Say No to Corruption” besides enforcement drive to arrest corrupt elements throughout the country.

NAB is mandated to carry out awareness and prevention functions against corruption in pursuance of section 33c NAO 1999.

Under its proactive approach, NAB has been engaging different governmental and non-governmental organizations and civil society in the fight against corruption.

NAB has intensified its awareness campaign against corruption and is using various platforms to spread the message “Say No to Corruption”.

In this context, NAB has written a letter to Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi as State Bank of Pakistan is regulatory body of all scheduled banks proposing that all cheques carry NAB message “Say No to Corruption” across the country in order to make people aware about the ill effects of corruption.

Chairman NAB had tasked DG Awareness and Prevention to conduct study of the utility and effectiveness of one window operations being operated at Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Office, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The campaign looks into public requests, grievances, complaints in all such government departments to give prompt and efficient response/services to the public at large at one single place with the purpose to reduce the culture of giving bribes to corrupt officials and officers and to avoid lengthy queues in deficient facilities.

The study has been completed. The outcome of the One Window Operation facility at CDA and ICT will be examined and recommendations if any will be forwarded to concerned departments after approval of the competent authority for further revamp the one window operation facilities at CDA and ICT.

Chairman NAB said that role of print and electronic media is very important in eradication of corruption from the country as newspapers are the best source to convey and spread the anti-corruption message “Say No to Corruption” to people at large throughout the country.

NAB has proposed to all newspapers to join hands with NAB by printing NAB message “Say No to Corruption” on the front page of their newspapers throughout the country.

Thus supporting the cause of NAB to create awareness against the ill effects of corruption amongst the masses through newspapers which will go a long way in eradicating corruption from the country.

He said NAB strongly believes that it is in the interest of all and sundry that anti-corruption campaign is carried widely for awareness and prevention of corruption.

NAB is committed to eliminate corruption through joint efforts of all stakeholders and collaborative efforts to bring sustainable systematic changes to the governance structure of our country.
