ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Mrs. Samina Arif Alvi, the wife of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi, has called upon the civil society, media, caregivers, teachers, national and international development partners, and the children themselves to play an active role towards raising awareness and promoting the rights of children.
In her message on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day and the 30th Anniversary of the ratification of UNCRC, Mrs. Samina said that Universal Children’s Day is marked around the world including Pakistan with activities focused on the promotion and protection of children’s rights.
Mrs. Samina said that this special day reminds the state to work for improving the condition of children.
“Today we pledge to ensure that children will have their rights to survive, participate and develop in an environment free from exploitation, abuse, and neglect,” she said.
Mrs. Samina Arif Alvi said that it is heartening to note that Pakistan is celebrating its 30th anniversary of the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
As a signatory to the UNCRC, Pakistan has made earnest efforts to safeguard the rights of children at various for a nationally, Pakistan has taken practical steps to ensure the safety of her children, she said.
Furthermore, she said that the establishment of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) by the government of Pakistan is the aright step towards promoting and strengthening the agenda of Child Rights in Pakistan.
Mrs. Samina said that the enactment of the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2020, Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018, and ICT Child Protection Act, 2018 would go a long way in protecting our children from exploitation and abuse.
“Today we renew our resolve to protect the rights of children and provide them equal opportunities to reach their full potential and bright future,” she added.
