GHOTKI, Pakistan: Pakistan Army and Rangers troops have completed the relief and rescue operation at the site of a train accident in Ghotki.

In the wee hours of Monday, two passenger trains – Millat Express and Sir Syed Express – collided near the Daharki area of Sindh’s Ghotki district, leaving at least 63 people dead and 107 others injured.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the restoration work on the railway track is in progress.

The ISPR said that the train engine bogies have been removed from the track.

It said that efforts are underway to open the railway track after necessary repair and maintenance.

The ISPR further said that 98 injured people have been evacuated to various hospitals including Sheikh Zaid Hospital Rahim Yar Khan and Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Panu Aqil.

Earlier, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Railways tweeted that the train operation has been restored from the up track following the completion of the rescue operation at the site of the train accident in Ghotki.

The Spokesperson said that Bahauddin Zakariya Express has been operated from the up track. He said that the work on the down track is continuing and it will also soon be restored.
