The law and order situation is continuously deteriorating in the Country as there is a significant surge in security threats vis-a-vis terror attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

From January 2023 to April 2024, the County witnessed a total of 2,075 terrorist attacks which resulted in 3,808 casualties including 1,195 deaths and 3,788 injuries.

The province-wise detail of terrorism incidents and causalities occurred throughout the Country in 2023-2024 shared by the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi with the National Assembly on September 2 revealed that from January to December 2023, 2,922 casualties of both civilians and security forces took place in the Country mostly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a result of terror attacks.

The statistics showed that out of them, 930 were martyrdoms – 572 suffered by LEAs and 358 by civilians whereas 1,992 were injuries – 1,292 suffered by LEAs and 700 by civilians.

Further 886 casualties occurred across the Country from January to April 2024. The number of deaths, among those total casualties, accounted for 285 and injuries were 601.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most-affected province in terms of terrorism-related casualties. It suffered 2,542 casualties followed by Balochistan which witnessed a total of 1,157 deaths and injuries in 16 months.

The reasons, as per the Ministry of Interior, behind surge in terrorism incidents in Pakistan is directly associated with the following factors:

  • Withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan in August 2021 has contributed to increase incidents in the region.
  • Trans-frontier support base / training centers are there to help in these incidents.
  • Acquisition of sophisticated weapons/ equipment by Terrorist Organizations has enhanced their operational capacities.
  • Use of Social Media Network/ Cyber Space have enhanced terrorist organizations outreach.
