LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that clean drinking water is a bounty of Allah Almighty and the provincial government has designed a programme costing billions of rupees to provide clean drinking water to the people.

While presiding over a high level meeting held in Lahore, the Chief Minister said that this mega project of public interest is being launched from the southern Punjab.

During the meeting, different matters pertaining to provision of clean drinking water including progress on installation of water filtration plants under Rural Water Supply Schemes was reviewed in detail.

The Chief Minister said that water supply schemes in the rural areas will be restored and water filtration plants will be installed under these schemes to provide clean drinking water to the rural population.

Shahbaz Sharif said that water supply schemes in villages will be restored on permanent basis and work would be carried out in a professional manner.

Meanwhile, non-active rural water supply schemes will be restored in phases.

The Chairman Saaf Pani Company (North) Major (retd) Tahir Iqbal MNA gave a briefing with regard to the project.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Saaf Pani Company (North) Major (retd) Tahir Iqbal MNA, Chairman Saaf Pani Company (South) Chaudhry Arif Saeed, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Housing and Finance Departments, CEOs of Punjab Saaf Pani Company (North & South), foreign consultants and high officials.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
