NationalPunjab govt to build steel multi-grain silos across the province

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Punjab government will build steel multi-grain silos to ensure adequate facilities for food grains storage across the province.

Senior officials of World Food Programme (WFP) along with the agro economists visited the office of Punjab Board of Investment and Trade on Wednesday to decide the mutually beneficial way forward pertaining to Steel Multi-Grain Silos project, said a press statement issued here on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media CEO PBIT said, “Self-sufficiency in food grains requires adequate facilities for its storage.”

The existing storage facilities available are insufficient at various levels for large increase in production”.

“Steel Multi-Grain Silos present a highly lucrative opportunity for investing in the agri business value chain for `best practice storage solutions” of agricultural produce where current post-harvest losses can be transformed into economic gain” she added.

World Food Programme team will be meeting the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in the next week to update him on the feasibility and technical requirements of the project.

Steel Multi-Grain Silos project will ensure bringing the grain storage industry in Pakistan in line with the international best practices in multi-grain storage and handling.

PBIT and Food department are working tirelessly to bring foreign investment for Silos project. World Food Programme is providing assistance to the government of Punjab for building 200 Steel Grain Silos in different parts of Punjab.
