ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in a traffic accident on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5).

In the early hours of Tuesday, 20 people were killed and six others injured when a passenger coach enroute to Karachi from Lahore hit an oil tanker from backside and later caught fire on M-5 at Jalalpur Peerwala Interchange.

In their separate statements, the president and prime minister prayed for the departed souls and commiserated with the bereaved families.

The president directed to provide every possible medical treatment to those injured in the accident. He said that effective steps need to be taken to avert such accidents.

The Multan Commissioner Amir Khattak tweeted saying that the collision had taken place around 4 am, confirming that 20 people died on the spot.

According to Rescue 1122 Multan, the dead bodies and injured were shifted to Nishter Hospital Multan.
