ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Post and United Bank Limited (UBL) Omni signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday enabling Post Offices to deliver financial services across rural areas.
The signing ceremony was chaired by the Federal Secretary Postal Services Saqib Aziz at ECO Postal Staff College in Islamabad.
The Director General Pakistan Post Rubbina Tayyab and President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) UBL Sima Kamil and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
While addressing the ceremony, the Secretary Postal Services Saqib Aziz said that Ministry of Postal Services have initiated various projects to make Pakistan Post a vibrant public service department under the Reforms Agenda approved by the Prime Minister to modernize the postal services through launching of mobile money transfer and Pakistan Post logistics company.
The Secretary Postal Services said that Pakistan Post is proud to have its presence in 85 percent rural areas of the Country. He said that this is historical achievement of Pakistan Post to join hands with UBL to introduce branchless banking network for the customers.
The Director General Pakistan Post Rubbina Tayyab said that financial inclusion is the demand of the modern postal users and Pakistan Post join hands with UBL to provide branchless banking services to the masses across the Country.
Rubbina Tayyab said that this collaboration with UBL will enhance the customer’s experiences at post offices by providing them multiple financial services including remittance, mobile account opening, interbank fund transfer cash deposit/ withdrawal for UBL account holders, Pakistan Railway ticket, and the network of UBL Omni alliance will be extended to all the Post offices in the Country. She said that will become UBL Omni Super-agent, initially in pilot phase with domestic remittances at selected locations in Southern Punjab, Northern Punjab, Balochistan, Rawalpindi, Lahore and metropolitan Karachi.
The Director General Pakistan Post said that upon the success of this project, the network of UBL Omni will be extended to all the Post offices in the Country.
Speaking on the occasion, the President UBL Sima Kamil said that our partnership with Pakistan Post enables us to remotely serve a large customer base across the Country.
The President UBL expressed confidence that this UBL and Pakistan Post partnership will augment our national financial inclusion initiatives.
