ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Postal Services Maulana Ameer Zaman on Wednesday apprised the Senate that Pakistan Post Office Department suffered Rs 16.795 billion loss during the last two years.

Responding to a question during a Question Hour, the minister said that the Pakistan Post Office suffered Rs 7.488 billion and Rs 9.306 billion losses during fiscal year 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively.

The minister said that to foster further development and diversification of postal services as well as to cater the varied needs of the customers, specially trade and commerce, Pakistan Post was offering a full range of Traditional and Express Postal Services which carried all those features which were offered by the private sector operators including competitive rates.

Maulana Ameer Zaman said that Pakistan Post took various measures to improve working and efficiency of the department. These measures included introduction of UMS-Cash on delivery service, electronic money order service, enhancing maximum limit of urgent money orders, expansion of express post track and trace system, motorization of postmen beats and same day delivery service at Lahore as pilot project.

The minister for postal services said that Mobile Money Transfer Solution, Pakistan Post Logistic Company and Re-branding of Pakistan Post projects were also initiated for successful implementation of Reform agenda approved by the prime minister.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
