NationalPakistan celebrates Eidul Fitr with simplicity after Bahawalpur tragedy

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The 29-day Holy Month of Ramazan came to an end following the sighting of Shawwal Moon on Sunday evening but an unfortunate incident has eclipsed Eidul Fitr, being Celebrated across Pakistan today (Monday).

In this regard, the announcement was made by the Chairman Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, saying Shawwal Moon had been sighted in various parts of the Country; therefore, Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Monday (June 26, 2017) which also marked the end of Ramazan.

In the meantime, a large number of people thronged mosques across the Country to greet their relatives whose ‘Itikaf’ also ended following 10-day stay in mosques, offering religious rituals.

Though Eidul Fitr is being Celebrated with religious zeal and fervor but unlike the past, the happiness of people has been marred this year after an ill-fated Oil Tanker Caught fire in Ahmedpur Sharqia near Bahawalpur on Sunday morning, resulting in deaths of over 150 people.

The Lahore-bound Oil Tanker set off on a long journey from Karachi but when it reached Ahmedpur Sharqia it fell while taking a Sharp turn. Meanwhile, people from nearby village rushed to the Tanker to collect leaking fuel but after a while, the Oil Tanker Caught fire, engulfing people in no time.

Resultantly, over 150 people including women and children were burnt to death while over 100 suffered burn injuries.

Following the incident, not only Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif cut short his private visit to London and decided to return Pakistan but the government also decided to celebrate the occasion of Eidul Fitr with simplicity.

The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also appealed to the people of the province to celebrate Eidul Fitr with simplicity and to pray for those who lost their lives and for the early recovery of those who got injured in the accident.
