NationalNo need to setup Judicial Commission in Mashal Khan murder case: CJ

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief Justice Supreme Court Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to do the investigations into Mashal Khan Lynching Case, and said that there was no need of Judicial Commission.

While hearing the Sou Motto Case, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice restrained the Peshawar High Court (PHC) from constituting a Judicial Commission to investigate the murder of Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old Journalism Student of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan who was lynched to death on April 14 by a mob over blasphemy allegations.

The Chief Justice praised the efficient performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, saying that it was doing a good investigation.

Furthermore, Justice Saqib Nisar said that he had no words to express over deep shock and grief over the incident. He directed that investigation into the Mashal Khan Murder Case must not be restricted to recording of statements alone.

Later, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the Case till April 27.
