NationalNearly normal rainfall in July; heavy showers likely from Tuesday

LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Monday forecast nearly normal rainfall during the month of July with three to four spells with thunderstorm and isolated heavy falls in most parts of the country.

According to a spokesman for the department, based upon regional and global weather conditions good rains of monsoon are predicted in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan whereas two spells are expected in southern parts (Southeast Sindh and Eastern Balochistan) of the county during the current month.

Due to warming/excess moisture the weather in plain areas of the country is likely to remain humid/sultry.

On the other hand, widespread rains/thunderstorm with isolated heavy to very heavy falls in the country are likely during this week.

The spokesman of Met office informed that a new weather system has entered the country which will grip most parts of the country during the mid-week. A westerly wave is also expected to grip upper parts of the country during the mid-week.

Under the influence of these weather conditions, rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy to very heavy falls expected at a number of places in Islamabad, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad divisions), and Kashmir during Tuesday to Thursday. Rain-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls are also expected at scattered places in southern Punjab (DG Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions) during the same period.

Rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls expected at scattered places in KP, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan during Tuesday to Thursday.

Rain/thunderstorm with moderate to heavy falls expected at scattered places in Sindh and eastern Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad and Kalat divisions) during Friday to Sunday.

Heavy to very heavy falls may generate urban flooding and flash flooding in the vulnerable areas particularly in Barsati Nullahs of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, DGKhan divisions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

Due to intermittent rains there is risk of landslides in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara divisions), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period.
