LAHORE, Pakistan: As Labour Day is being observed across the world including in Pakistan on Saturday, the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has announced to increase the minimum monthly wages of workers from Rs 17,500 to Rs 20,000.

Presiding over a high-level meeting in Lahore on Saturday, he said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has increased the minimum wage of workers by Rs 5,000 in the last three years.

The Chief Minister said that the marriage grant for workers has been increased from Rs 100,000 to Rs 200,000 and the death grant from Rs 500,000 to Rs 600,000.

Usman Buzdar said that workers have been allotted flats in the labour colonies of Lahore, Nankana Sahib and Multan.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that the grant of over Rs 7 billion under the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund is a proof of the government’s labour friendliness.

Sardar Usman Buzdar said that it has also been decided to build 4 new Social Security Hospitals.

Terming the labourers as national heroes, Usman Buzdar said that Labour Day is being celebrated with simplicity due to Coronavirus.
