ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Conference on “Livestock in Balochistan Prospects and Opportunities” was held at Marriott Hotel in Islamabad on Friday.

The Conference was organized by the Balochistan government in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (UNO), University of Balochistan and Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS).

The Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Conference had the participation of distinguished guest speakers and experts of the subject.

The guest speakers who delivered speeches during the conference included the Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal khan, the Balochistan Chief Secretary Captain (retd) Fazeel Asghar, the ITC Representative of Pakistan Mohammad Awais Khan, and the former Minister Livestock and Dairy Development in Punjab Mumtaz Khan Manais.

Moreover, the Representative from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masud Zamani, the Minister Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Dr Wang Zhihua, the Deputy Head Commissioner from the Australian High Commission Brek Betlay, the Chairperson of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, and the Special Assistant to Balochistan Chief Minister Ijaz Sanjrani also spoke in the Conference.

In his remarks at the event, the Balochistan Chief Minister Balochistan said that Balochistan is a land of opportunities and explained how the livestock industry has given various incentives related to the industry and innovations regarding livestock, promoting the participation of farmers, mill owners and various industries related to Livestock. He mentioned that Pakistan possesses amazing potential to prosper and Balochistan has been a key contributor in promoting the Livestock industry.

The Balochistan Chief Secretary welcomed the chief guest and audience, presented a brief introduction of Balochistan highlighting the important aspects of the entire region. He elaborated that this conference is the first step towards the livestock Expo which is going to be held in Balochistan in coming days.

The ITC Representative of Pakistan Mohammad Awais Khan mentioned about the UN’s mission to support the Balochistan initiative to attain the sustainable goals of UN. He explained the expected outcomes of policies which will enhance the livestock industry in Balochistan. Mentioning the start of the project and the recent project implications. He concluded by mentioning the collaboration of UN with the government of Balochistan.

Mumtaz Mohammad Khan Manais started his speech with a thoughtful poetic verse. He spoke about the importance of preserving Livestock and its ties with the region of Balochistan and its people. He further elaborated that farmers must be strengthened as livestock and farming is one of the main factors in eradicating poverty and generating income.

The Representative from the Iranian Embassy in Pakistan Excellency Masud Zamani shared his thoughts explaining ties of Iran with Pakistan and the joint initiatives taken in the Livestock industry of Pakistan.

The Minister Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) Dr Wang Zhihua discussed the China-Pakistan joint cooperation for regional development and international market access to Pakistan.

The Chairwoman PPAF Roshan Khursheed Bharucha stressed on the importance of women and highlighted their role in the livestock industry of Pakistan.

The Deputy Head commission from the Australian High Commission to Pakistan Brek Betlay commented about the global ranking of Australia in the Livestock industry and emphasized about the quality measures taken by Australia to improve the industry in Pakistan.

The Conference concluded with an end note from Special Assistant to Balochistan Chief Minister Ijaz Sanjrani. He mentioned the importance of farmers in boosting the country’s economy resulting in the prosperity of Pakistan.

Among the eminent guests who graced the conference with their presence were; the Balochistan Minister for Livestock Haji Mittha Khan, the Federal Minister of Defense Production Zubaida Jalal, the Deputy FAO Representative Farrukh Toirov, the former Governor Mohammad Khan Achakzai, and Senator Jahanzaib Jamaldini.

Approximately 250 people including experts, diplomates and representatives of public and private sector attended the Conference.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
