RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Monday took charge of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) from the outgoing General Rashad Mehmood at a Change of Command Ceremony at Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi.
Having become the 17th head of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Zubair Hayat also inspected the guard of honour in the Ceremony which was attended by officers from all three armed services.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) designate General Qamar Javad Bajwa and the outgoing COAS General Raheel Sharif were also present.
Being the most senior general in Pakistan army, Zubair Mahmood Hayat was appointed as the CJCSC and promoted to the rank of four-star generals on Saturday by President Mamnoon Hussain on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Prior to his appointment as the CJCSC, General Zubair Hayat was serving as the Chief of General Staff (CGS).
General Zubair Mahmood Hayat was commissioned in Artillery Regiment on October 24, 1980. He graduated from Fort Sill Oklohoma, USA; Command and Staff College Camberlay United Kingdom; and National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad.
Zubair Hayat had wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. He commanded an artillery regiment, mechanized division artillery, an infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division. He was Adjutant at Pakistan Military Academy (PMA), Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Army and Air adviser at Pakistan embassy in UK.
He was also Chief of Staff of a strike Corps, Private Secretary to COAS and Director General Staff Studies Directorate at GHQ. He also held the appointment of Director General Strategic Plan Division (SPD). He commanded 31 Corps Bahawalpur and recently was CGS at GHQ.
