NationalEid-ul-Azha: Demand of iron-made household goods rises

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the demand for iron-made household goods are on the rise as the Muslim community prepare to slaughter sacrificial animals on their annual Islamic festival.

Sale of new machetes, choppers, knives and other iron-made goods have risen drastically all over the country.

People are also repairing their old and damaged machetes, knives and other tools needed for cutting meat. Smithies, which were devoid of work just a few days back, are now bustling with activities.

“Our business is at the peak before Eid-ul-Azha,” a blacksmith Javed Tahir said according to a private news channel.

The price of these sharp tools varies with the quality and quantity of the iron. Currently, butcher knives are selling Rs 500 to 600, small knives Rs 300 to 500 and cleavers Rs 700 to 800.

A buyer said he had come to buy several sharp tools as he had recruited some extra hands to work with him during Eid.

It is not only the blacksmiths of the city who are enjoying the pick of the season of their ironworks, knife sharpeners are also wandering on different roads of the town calling for knife sharpening as Eid-ul-Azha is very close.

Muhammad Nazir, said that these were exceptional days for them and they can do full business. Similarly, vendors were also seen roaming on bicycles to sell tools for sacrifice, besides offering services to sharpen the rusted slaughter equipment.
