The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the notification of Amjad Javed Saleemi’s appointment as the Inspector General of Punjab Police (IG Punjab).
In a statement, the ECP said that appointment of Amjad Javed Saleemi was carried out against rules and regulations.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government replaced the IGP Mohammad Tahir Khan with Amjad Javed Saleemi.
“Mr. Amjad Javed Saleemi, a BS-22 Officer of Police Service of Pakistan, presently serving as Commandant, National Police Academy (NPA), under Interior Division, is transferred as posted as Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Government of the Punjab, with immediate effect and until further orders,” said a notification issued by the Establishment Division in this regard.
IG Punjab Tahir Khan removed for not following government orders: Fawad Chaudhry
Talking to media on Tuesday, the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary said that the IG Punjab Tahir Khan was removed for not following government orders.
“We have given a clear message to bureaucracy that we want work. Person, who works, will remain in the office in this government. Tahir Khan did not fulfill the government-assigned task,” Fawad Chaudhry said.
It is worth mentioning here that a few weeks after the PTI took over in Punjab, its government appointed the former IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tahir Khan as the IG Punjab, replacing Syed Kaleem Imam.
