ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told that there has been a considerable decrease in beggary in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) in 2022.

Replying to a question in writing the Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sana Ullah Khan dispelled the impression that trend of beggary has increased in Islamabad, and sharing the following comparative data showing that there is a considerable decrease in the said crime.

The House was apprised that during the month of October 2022, total number of 35 cases were registered against 67 beggars/accused persons under section 9/10 Vagrancy Act, 1958 & 328-A PPC.

It was told that after the completion of investigation, challans against the beggars/accused persons were sent to concerned Court of competent jurisdiction for trial proceeding.

The minister also denied the reports, describing it incorrect that strict action is being taken against all the beggars.

Moreover, he added that, no police officer/official has been found involved in supporting professional beggary in Islamabad.
